Here Are A Few Steps To Revving Up Your Immune System

Here are a few steps to take to rev up your immune system. During the winter time this is more important, as then we are more prone to getting sick.
1. Beta Glucans. This is found in many mushrooms, bakers’ yeast and oats. They have been found to effectively stimulate the immune system cells. They stimulate certain proteins, which help the body fight off viral infection. There was a study performed with 54 people. Those that took a beta-glucan supplement had a 23% lower instance of getting infections compared to the placebo group. 250 to 500 mgs are a good daily dose.
2. Hydrotherapy. I do this one often. Hydrotherapy is performed by alternating from hot to cold. It can be done with a shower, bath or ice and heat packs. This boosts the immune system and improves nerve function and blood flow. Take a hot shower for 15 seconds, then cold, then hot, etc. End the shower with the cold water. This a great technique which can be done at home for free.
3. Brewers yeast. Dissolve some in water and drink. A tablespoon of brewer’s yeast contains many B vitamins, including folic acid. Brewer’s yeast contains many minerals as well. 1 tablespoon of brewer’s yeast can be dissolved in water or sprinkled on your favorite food. Your stomach may not tolerate this amount at first, so you may want to start small and build up. You can get debittered brewers’ yeast, so that the taste will be less bitter.
4. Cut out from your diet as much sugar as possible-it lowers your immune function. “Eating sugar may put your white blood cells into a temporary coma”, says Monica Reinagel. Try substituting with stevia, monk fruit, honey, maple syrup or erythritol. Try sour, crunchy or other tastes, besides for sweet.
5. Zinc. This has shown to extremely effective and important.
6. Sleep. Getting a good night’s sleep is critical for proper immune function.
7. Social interaction. This may sound like a surprise, but this can lower stress and promote happiness, helpful for keeping your immunity up. Research has shown that people without a relationship and form of social, have a higher chance of getting the cold.
8. Probiotics. The friendly bacteria in our GI tract keep the pathogenic bacteria under control. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut or kimchi have probiotics and function as a prebiotic as well. Probiotic supplements can offer you higher doses of probiotics. Make sure that it is time released and protected from the stomach acid till it gets to the GI. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are the main supplement forms of probiotic that are available.
9. Monolaurin. This is an antiviral derived from lauric acid, usually from coconuts. It breaks down the membranes of viruses. 300 mg a day is a good dosage.
