Healthy Liver

One of the most hard-working organs is the liver. It has to perform over 500 functions a day.  The liver produces over 13,000 chemicals, regulates more than 50,000 enzymes, balances sex hormones, filters almost 100 gallons of blood a day, produces bile to break down fat and aid digestion, detoxifies waste and pollutants, converts glucose into energy, stores essential nutrients and more. I hope you get the picture.

As we age the liver will not function as efficiently. Our constant exposure to toxins, pesticides, heavy metals, chemicals and pollution cause the liver to age faster.

So, if you feel tired or your memory is sluggish it could be due to a clogged liver. When this happens you will feel tired, since your liver can’t convert glucose into energy efficiently and carry out all its functions as quickly.

Symptoms of an underworking liver are: joint and back pain, indigestion, constipation, muscle loss, poor immunity, high blood pressure, vision problems, memory loss and high cholesterol and triglycerides.

Milk thistle is good for the liver but is not enough. It doesn’t have all the nutrition that the liver needs. Liver function is also connected with adrenal performance, so you would also want to give your adrenals a boost. Licorice root contains a compound called glycyrrhizin which enables the adrenal hormones to last longer. Hormones like cortisol, progesterone and aldosterone will break down slower if you consume licorice root.

There is a medicinal mushroom called “royal agaricus” which is know for having the highest content of beta glucans. The beta glucans stimulate the immune system and will help you fight off viruses.

Quercetin protects the liver from free radicals and DNA damage. So adding some quercetin to your supplement regimen or diet would be helpful. NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine), one of the most powerful antioxidants, creates glutathione which can protect the body from damage. It the one the best detoxifiers  for your body. It will help your liver deal with the many toxins it needs to filter out.

A healthy liver means more energy! If the liver is properly functioning it convert the glucose into energy and digest, properly.
