Get An Immune System Tune-Up
Immunity is something that we could all get tuned up. Here is some advice on how to increase your immunity.
1. Ginseng. Ginseng may be helpful in fighting fatigue and increasing immunity. 5 ml is more than enough.
2. Elderberry. Elderberries are antiviral and can help you prevent and overcome viral infection. Elderberry syrup or Sambucus as it is called is the best way of taking elderberry concentrate.
3. Being happy and participating in social affairs improve your immunity. Depression reduces your immune response of the T and B cells. Isolating is not necessarily a better option when it comes to staying safe.
4. Moderate exercise can increase your immunity. But don’t overdo it.
5. Vitamin C may increase immunity. There have been conflicting outcomes of studies on its efficacy in protecting from the cold and flu. Being rather inexpensive, it can’t hurt to take 500 mgs of a good Vitamin C supplement, twice a day.
6. Vitamin D. The sunshine vitamin (actually hormone) is a big immune booster. Getting sun exposure is the best way of getting vitamin d. The morning hours of day, when the sun is not too strong is the ideal time. This may well be the reason why the flu and cold are more common in the winter. Being indoors most of the time, with a lack of adequate sun exposure leaves us more vulnerable to sickness. If getting enough sunlight is not practical, try supplementing with 1000 IU of vitamin d with a large meal.
7. Avoid excess sugar, alcohol and food full of preservatives and pesticides.
8. N-acetylcysteine. NAC will thin mucus, make you feel better and prevent infection. NAC is an amino acid which is a precursor of glutathione-a powerful antioxidant. A study was done with people who were injected with flu virus. Those who took NAC had only 25% flu symptoms compared to the placebo group which had 79% experiencing symptoms.
9. Sauerkraut. Fermented sauerkraut adds probiotics and prebiotics to improve your microbiome. It is also rich in selenium.
10. Onion and garlic, besides being great spice for your food are also great for your immune system. They contain allyl sulfides which improve your immunity.
11. Mushrooms. They have large amounts of zinc, beta glucans and lentinan. All of these are good for immune function.
